This excursion provides you with the opportunity of seeing Olympia, one of the most famous archaeological sites in Greece. Upon your arrival in Katakolon port you will be met with your professional guide and embark on an AC bus for Olympia.
Olympia is the world-wide known birthplace of the Olympic Games. The museum hosts some of the most well-preserved and beautiful remains of the Greek past such us the sculpted decoration of the Temple of Zeus and the statues of Hermes of Praxiteles and Nike. Moreover, you can visit the archaeological site and walk among the remnants of the temple of Hera or “run” in the ancient Stadium.
Afterwards, you will depart for Pyrgos. About 20 minutes later you will arrive in the capital of Ilia, the modern commercial and cultural center of the area. You will walk in the heart of the city and see neoclassical buildings and churches. You will visit the municipal market and Apollo theatre, the most interesting buildings designed by the German architect Ziller.
The guide will unravel the history of the area and will lead you at the municipal market, where old merchant shops of craftsmen and unique cafes and bars endowing a unique character to the area. Upon completion of the tour you will return to Katakolon port.
