Meet your guide at the port of Herklion and board your private vehicle towards the famous palace of Knossos.
The palace of Knossos was built between 2000-1900 BC. Minos Kalokairinos discovered it and Sir Arthur Evans started the excavations in the 1900s. You will be surprised by the Minoans Civilization, whom this palace is a symbol, as your guide explains to you its Myths and history. You will be astonished by its construction, the advanced technology, the luxury materials, the architectural plan and the drainage and water supply systems. Remarkable are the colorful columns and frescoes which decorate the walls of the palace depicting scenes of the everyday life and varying ceremonies of a rather sophisticated society.
After that you will walk the famous “labyrinth” of 220000 m2, the work of the famous “Daidalos”, which hosted the mythical “Minotaur”.
You will continue your excursion by visiting the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, where you will also see a huge collection of Minoans findings which makes the museum one of the 10 most important museums in the world.
Afterwards, your professional guide will drive you through the City Highlights, the Liberty Square, the Morozini Fountain, a fountain of lions embraced by nymphs dancing around them, the St. Marcus Basilica from the Venetian Period, the Venetian Loggia, the administration and authority building during the Venetian period, the Archiepiscopal Church of St. Titus.
Free time will be available for shopping in the historical centre of the City with its Venetian style buildings.
